What is the difference between trekking and mountaineering?
Mountaineering involves technical terrain that may require the use of ice axes, crampons, and ropes to navigate glaciers or steep ridges, whereas trekking is primarily hiking on established trails.
Do I need to know how to use an ice axe before I go?
Not at all. Our mountaineering trips are educational by design. Your guide will spend time teaching you self-arrest, crampon technique, and rope team travel during the expedition.
How heavy will my pack be?
Depending on the objective and whether we are using a basecamp, packs typically range from 35 to 50 lbs. We provide a detailed packing list to help you keep weight to a minimum.
How do we handle altitude?
We utilize "climb high, sleep low" tactics and build acclimatization days into every itinerary. Our guides monitor health daily to ensure a safe ascent.
What kind of boots do I need for mountaineering?
Mountaineering requires stiff, crampon-compatible boots. We can advise you on whether your current footwear is appropriate or help you source a rental pair for the trip.
